We sincerely welcome Prof. Dr. Maria Margarida Mateus from c⁵Lab – Sustainable Construction Materials Association, Lisbon, Portugal, to join the Editorial Board of Recent Progress in Sciences. He is a motivated and talented multidisciplinary researcher driven to inspire the academic and non-academic community with new projects and research in process engineering and environmental sustainability as main pillars. Recently he was invited to be the R&D Supervisor of the Clean Cement Line Project. The project is the most significant funding in the R&D P2020 project in Portugal and aims to decarbonize the cement industry with zero fossil fuel to maximize energy efficiency. In Secil was also technically responsible for AlfaGreen Biorefinery in Cibra-Secil Plant, the first liquefaction biorefinery in the world using this new process, developed since my post-doc in 2012-2016 (IST) until today, with a plant in TRL 8. Was also responsible for developing process and product in CDAC – Centro de Desenvolvimento e Aplicações de Cimento in Secil, with the project managing of the Clean4G P2020 project SECIL/IST. Between 2015 and 2019 was an Assistant lecturer in Materials Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering in Universidade Atlântica. In IST is co-lecturer in Biofuels in the Chemical Engineering Department. In the past, has participated in projects with different areas in the private sector of cork with CorkSupply, pulp and paper with The Navigator Company, and biofuel with Galp, with the aim of product development and process and project analysis and consulting. Owns 2 national and 2 international patents, several communications, publications in international peer-reviewed journals, and two book chapters.
